Forest win is voted best home performance - now it's the away wins

Last updated : 17 May 2014 By Tony Scholes
First away win came at Hillsborough in August

There were some other outstanding performances at home. Derby, Reading and Wigan readily spring to mind, and they did occupy the next three places, but from the moment the vote started it was very much just a matter of which of the top two won it.

The QPR win came in October. It was the last of the run of seven successive wins and had been billed as our first really big test.

"We've played nothing yet," was often the cry as we moved into first place in the league. We'd beaten Reading at home, and that was a tough one, but here were QPR, the only team still unbeaten in the Championship, and we simply swept them away with two Danny Ings goals, one from the penalty spot, securing a 2-0 win.

That, undoubtedly, would have won the vote but for our performance at the end of February against Nottingham Forest. The QPR win secured 32.9% of the vote, but it was the Forest win, with a 39.2% share, that was chosen as our best performance.

It was a tough game. Forest were the in form team on a really good run, but if we swept QPR away then we virtually destroyed Forest in the first half as a Scott Arfield goal was followed by a Sam Vokes brace and a 3-0 half time lead.

It ended 3-1 but that first half show from the Clarets is as good as anything I've seen in years and is fully worthy of winning.

Now it is time for the away vote and here were have eleven wins to select from and remember we are voting for the best performance.

The first away win came in the first away game of the season at Sheffield Wednesday. After a defeat at Brighton we then won the next four, at Derby, Leeds, Doncaster and Ipswich, yes Ipswich where I'd given up hope of ever seeing us win.

Win number six came in January at Yeovil, then there were the two derby wins at Bolton and Blackburn before we won three of the last five on the road at Charlton, Barnsley and Blackpool.

You choose - Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, Leeds, Doncaster, Ipswich, Yeovil, Bolton, Blackburn, Charlton, Barnsley or Blackpool.

The vote will run until the end of Tuesday and you can vote via the VOTING POLLS page or the front page of the site.
