Pompey didn't just win against Leicester, they beat them 6-1 at Fratton Park although Leicester did have Miguel Vitor sent off just ahead of the second goal, one of six players sent off in this weekend's games.
The win lifted Portsmouth off the bottom of the league and as high as 20th, dumping Preston into bottom place.
North End, however, went to Coventry and won with Iain Hume getting their decisive second goal on his debut. It was as good a goal as was scored in the Championship all week. Preston are next to bottom, just ahead of Leicester who have dropped down into bottom place. Portsmouth join them in the relegation places.
None of Derby, Nottingham Forest and Watford had won a home game, Watford's the strangest of records as they sit unbeaten away from home. All three put that right yesterday with Derby equalling Portsmouth's big win by securing a 5-0 win against Crystal Palace and former manager George Burley.
The big Yorkshire derby at Elland Road was won by Leeds, and the only goal of the game came via a howler from former Burnley left-back Stephen Jordan. That was another fiesty game in which two players were ordered off. Robert Snodgrass looked a bit unfortunate but Jamie Ward's dismissal was for a horror challenge.
The league is tight right now and Sheffield United are just three points behind the play offs yet are in 18th place.
This week, besides the stats, goalscorers, disciplinary records and the midweek fixtures, each club's average, highest and lowest attendances are shown with Burnley currently 13th in that list.
