Eyresy just keeps going

It seems hard to believe that come early next season it will be seven years since Chris Waddle allowed him to go to Preston and I’m not sure even his greatest fan would have believed that he would still be playing 2nd Division football in 2004.

He started the week receiving the Oldham Athletic Supporters Association’s Player of the Season award then deservedly picked up Radio 5 Lives’ Veteran Player of the Season award. Clarets Mad contributed to the Radio 5 Live award, along with Oldham and Preston web sites who asked their supporters to vote for him.

There was more to come though for Eyresy and after talks with Oldham boss Brian Talbot he has been awarded another one year contract at Boundary Park.

Should he decide to continue his playing career with the Latics he should play his 600th Football League game, he is just twelve short. He has already played in over 700 league and cup games. That’s some going for a player who was 25-years-old when he made his debut for Blackpool in 1989 after signing from Rhyl.
