A poignant farewell to Ray Pointer.

Last updated : 11 February 2016 By The Editor's Chair.

Former playing colleagues of Ray Pointer will assemble at Turf Moor later this morning.

They will meet prior to travelling together to attend the funeral of Claret legend Ray Pointer, to be held in Blackpool later this afternoon.

Ray was born a native of Northumberland in 1936, he joined Burnley in 1955, going on to become the club's' second-highest scorer of all time.

Ray Pointer was a vital component of the Clarets' title-winning side in 1960. He made a total of 270 appearances for Burnley scoring 132 goals; a feat only emulated by George Beel's earlier total of 178.

Ray who recently died, peacefully at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, gained three full England caps, finding the back of the net twice.

On behalf of all Clarets Madders everywhere, I wish to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to all of Ray's family and friends at this very sad time. R.I.P. "Blond Bomber".
