Edgar becomes a Yorkshire Terrier

The move to Birmingham looked the perfect fit for Edgar who was released by the Clarets at the end of last season. He'd started 74 league games for us in five seasons with 44 of those coming in the 2011/12 season when he was preferred to Michael Duff in the centre of defence.

It looked a perfect fit because Blues' manager Lee Clark knew him well from Newcastle, knew what he was getting and he went straight into the team at the start of the season, making a total of 14 league starts by 25th October.

Ironically, a ridiculous sending off that day changed things for him, and in front of Eddie Howe, the one Burnley manager who played him on a regular basis. He was shown the red card in that game by referee Keith Hill after only seven minutes and Birmingham went on to lose 8-0 at home to Bournemouth. Clark had, by then left the club with Malcolm Crosby in temporary charge. Crosby wanted the job but this result ended any hopes he had of landing it.

Burton boss Gary Rowett came in and Edgar has since failed to win back his place in the side. He's made two substitute appearances in the league with his only start coming in their 3-2 win at Blyth Spartans in the FA Cup.

Birmingham confirmed the move to Huddersfield yesterday, stating that they have not included any recall clause in the loan deal which means he will be a Huddersfield player until 3rd May, the end of the season.

He'll be returning to play at the ground where he had a nightmare for Burnley last season. He made only one further start for us last season in the 1-1 draw at Watford when we had a somewhat depleted side with Kieran Trippier, Dean Marney, Danny Ings and Sam Vokes all missing.

On completing the signing, Huddersfield boss Chris Powell said: "I'm delighted to be able to welcome David into the squad.

"He's a very capable player in a number of defensive positions, having played during his career at centre back, right back, left back and in a holding midfield role in the top two divisions in England.

"David also has a well earned reputation as a leader and organiser on the pitch, which will be of great benefit to the team. I'm looking forward to working with him during the second half of the current season, when I'm sure he will play a big role for us."

Edgar will be available for all but one of Huddersfield's remaining games. Under the terms of the loan agreement, he will not be able to play in the game against Birmingham at St. Andrew's in March.
