After a tweet from a Whitby Town fanzine, the player confirmed it as did his manager, former Sunderland defender Darren Williams, who said that Whitby had worked closely with him over the past year and helped him as much as they could to release him to play games for and train with Burnley.

He played one public reserve game, against Tranmere at the end of the 2011/12 season, and remained on Burnley's radar with news of his move to Turf Moor coming out after he'd played in the development squad's last game of the season at Turf Moor.

His signing completes a total turnaround of the goalkeepers at Burnley. Lee Grant has opted for a move to Derby whilst both Brian Jensen and Jon Stewart were released.

Tom Heaton was the first to sign up after turning down the offer of a new deal at Bristol City and Alex Cisak signed a couple of weeks ago in similar circumstances after leaving Oldham.

They are expected to contest the goalkeeping position in the first team with Liversedge likely to be working with the development squad.

He comes with some Football League experience having played for Darlington in 2009/10 which was their last season in the league. The 6ft 4ins goalkeeper moved to Whitby from there and has had two spells with the club, in between playing for Jarrow Roofing.
