Dean in charge of West Brom game

Last updated : 07 February 2015 By Tony Scholes

That last home game was a 5-2 win against Peterborough back in September 2012 when Charlie Austin scored the first of his two Turf Moor hat tricks. Since then he's refereed us at Blackburn and in the two Premier League away games mentioned above.

He's come in for some criticism this season for the two yellow cards he's shown to Danny Ings for simulation, including the club's own commentary team, but the first of those was given by the assistant at Palace and the one at Newcastle is difficult to determine one way or the other even using all the possible television angles.

He did, in my view, get it wrong when he didn't send off Mile Jedinak for a second yellow at Palace when the Australian brought down Lukas Jutkiewicz in the penalty box, settling for just the penalty award, but overall I think he's done well.

That's not always been the case with him. There are games we can point to over the years and, without question, most will point to the day he was conned by Blackburn for the penalty award in 2010. Having said that, he was the first to referee a Burnley win over Blackburn in 35 years, since George Nolan refereed our game at Ewood in April 1979.

He's refereed five games since our New Year's Day draw at Newcastle, and  the cards in those games have taken his total this season to 96 yellows and five reds in 22 games. 52 of those yellow cards have gone to home team players with 44 to away team players.

The last player he sent off came on the last occasion he refereed West Brom. They beat Aston Villa 1-0 at the Hawthorns with Villa's Kieran Richardson sent off in the first half.

His last game was Stoke's 3-1 win against QPR last week. Victor Moses and Jonathan Walters of Stoke were both yellow carded as were QPR's Mauricio Isla and Joey Barton.

The assistant referees are Stuart Burt (Northamptonshire) and Lee Betts (Norfolk). The fourth official is Michael Oliver (Northumberland) whose last Burnley game was our opening game of this season against Chelsea.
