David Nugent signs for Burnley

It was thought Burnley had been looking to secure the services of Hull's Daniel Cousin but news this morning suggested that move was very unlikely and that Owen Coyle had turned his attentions elsewhere.

We waited, and waited, and waited, and with the 5:00 p.m. deadline passed it looked as though we'd been unsuccessful in strengthening our squad, the last chance before the next window opens at the start of 2010.

Then Sky Sports News brought the news that the paper work had been submitted for the signing of David Nugent on loan and that has now been confirmed.

Nugent will join the Clarets on loan until January, subject to Premier League approval, although the deal is with a possible view to a loan extension or a permanent signing.

He's scored three Premier League goals for Portsmouth with the goals all coming in a three week spell at the beginning of this year. The first was in a 1-1 draw at Spurs and he followed that up with goals in defeats at Fulham and at home against Liverpool.
