Cotterill wants five new players

It has been well documented that Burnley have had the smallest squad in the league for much of his time as manager. It has been increased recently, albeit with the help of three loan players, and now Cotterill says he would like to bring in five new players.

"There will be movement in the summer I would say, and I think we need five players, to strengthen five positions that I would like to be better in. If we could do that it would be a decent squad with good competition."
The manager thinks the league is getting ever stronger and in terms of size of club is getting ever closer to the Premiership rather than the Premiership Two he called it a couple of years ago.

"There are some clubs in our league who are, attendance wise, bigger than some of those in the Premiership. The three teams coming down will all be bigger and better for having been up there. Then there could be Nottingham Forest and Bristol City coming up.

"And if Scunthorpe go and do what Colchester have done this season then they are going to be a tough nut to crack. It is getting forever bigger, so we have got to get better players into our squad and not stand still."

Of the current Burnley squad there are four players out of contract in the summer. They are Graham Branch, Danny Coyne, John McGreal and Frank Sinclair who is currently on loan at Huddersfield with a view to a permanent move to the League One club.

Steve Cotterill has refused to discuss any of those players, who at this time are all expected to leave the club, and said he will be talking to them before he discusses their futures with anyone else.
