James Anderson - currently resting before the Test Series
Tomorrow sees Burnley Cricket Club take on Burnley Football Club at the Turf Moor cricket ground in a match that has often been on the pre-season calendar but it is now two years since it was last played, an occasion that saw Matt O’Neill bat with some style as our two goalkeepers Nik Michopoulos and Luigi Cennamo looked on somewhat bemused.

The stars of the side in the last few years are mostly gone though including three excellent batsmen in Nigel Gleghorn, Adrian Heath and Clive Middlemass all of whom excelled.

There have been suggestions that current England bowling sensation James Anderson could be in the BCC side. Anderson could, if selected, play for Burnley in their league game this weekend. There are certainly no rules in the Lancashire League now to prevent it.

But he is currently taking a week off, he has been told to take a week’s rest by England coach Duncan Fletcher, and has, along with Andrew Flintoff, been prevented from playing for Lancashire. Quite what the hierarchy would think of one of their central contract players taking part in this fixture is anyone’s guess.

Anderson or no Anderson though it promises to be an entertaining afternoon in what is expected to be another perfect day weather wise for cricket.

Wickets are pitched at 3:00 p.m. and is expected to be Burnley’s version of twenty20 cricket.
