Clarets make surprise signing

In a stunning decision we have re-signed Lenny Johnrose on a month’s deal after releasing him at the end of last season. To be honest the decision to release Johnrose came as no surprise and would have been expected with our without the loss of television money.

You have to go back 18 months to the 1-0 defeat at Grimsby in February 2001 to find Lenny’s last first team start for Burnley and last season there were just six short substitute appearance spread out amongst the injuries.

He started pre-season training with the Clarets but recently he has been training with Blackpool and in fact was offered a contract by them that he somewhat surprisingly turned down. Surely he could never have never expected to return to Turf Moor.

This signing definitely highlights the financial crisis at Turf Moor. With injuries piling up and no money for new players this deal for the 32 year-old Johnrose is a sad reflection of the current state of affairs at Burnley Football Club.

The club have confirmed that Johnrose will be in the squad tomorrow – this must be what Stan meant when he said he would throw the kids in.
