Clarets' duo miss out on international calls

The first disappointing news was hearing that Jay Rodriguez won't be in the England under-21 squad for the finals in Denmark. He'd originally been named in a 40 man squad but when Stuart Pearce announced the final 23 today he had missed out with the forward positions going to Nathan Delfouneso (Aston Villa), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United) and Connor Wickham (Ipswich).

Besides Defouneso, there is also good news for another former Burnley player Jack Cork. He's back at Chelsea now after his season long loan with the Clarets and he too will join up with Pearce's squad.

That news has been mirrored with the announcement of the Canada squad for this summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup. David Edgar had hoped to be included after breaking into the squad recently and making two substitute appearances.

But, like Jay Rod, he's missed out with Simeon Jackson (Norwich) and Jaime Peters (Ipswich) the only two English based players in their squad.
