On that occasion we came from a goal behind to win 3-1 in a match that was played on the Tuesday evening before the league season got underway. It was a game that saw all of Jason Shackell, Joseph Mills and Brian Stock make their Burnley debuts on a night when goals from Chris McCann, Charlie Austin and Dean Marney secured the victory.
That was the first occasion the clubs had met in the League Cup and provided us with our first ever cup victory at Vale Park having twice lost FA Cup ties there in the 1976/77 and 1980/81.
Besides the win in 2012, we've won there on three occasions in the league. Two of them were in successive seasons, 1930/31 and 1931/32 with the third giving us the rare treat of an away hat trick with Steve Daley scoring all three in a 3-2 win in 1983/84.
This forthcoming game will be played in the week after the opening game of the league season with the likely date Tuesday 11th August.
