Clarets away day woes continue

Burnley have so far played three away games into their third Premier League campaign and there are very few signs of improvement in their performance levels on the road.

Sean Dyche's Clarets have conceded three goals, three times in their opening three fixtures away from Turf Moor.

That's an awful amount of three's and the Clarets' dire away form is becoming a serious threat to Burnley's hopes of retaining their Premier League status.

Sean Dyche discussing the problem recently said, "We’re still trying to develop as a group, and they’re developing through the knocks as well".

Burnley have acquired just seven points from five homes games but the need to accrue points on the road is now becoming a major issue.

Dyche added, “At home we’ve looked a much stronger unit in terms of how we’ve gone about it, away from home we’re still searching for that real freedom to go on and take on the challenge."

"We’re still a bit edgy and sort of unsure of ourselves. At home I think there is a nice security about what we’re doing, so that’s got to come and it’s got to come in quickly."

The Liverpool game which the Clarets won 2-0, should have been played at Anfield but ground redevelopment delays saw the game switched to Turf Moor.

That meant Burnley have an imbalance in home and away fixtures; having played five at home and only three away.

Dyche went on to add, “We’re already eight games into the Premier League season and we’re going to need points away from home as well as at home, so it’s important that the team grows to understand that."

The different challenge that every fixture throws up in the Premier League is also very much on the Burnley gaffer's mind.

“But we’re coming to good teams, Chelsea, Leicester, and these are decent, make no mistake. They have a good threat and good players."

“We’re once again newcomers to the Premier League and there is a gap - a big gap."

“We’ve tried to alter that with spending some money, but it’s not about spending £20m, it’s about spending £80m to try and get quality in."

In Premier League terms Burnley are not big spenders and it is apparent that players are going to have to be added in January if Burnley are going to survive the very real prospect of a third relegation.

Dyche added, “We have to try and piece it together and add to the glue that’s held us together to get here. We have to develop as we do it, and that’s a big challenge to piece it together each week. There’s a disconnect at the moment from performances at home and away.”

Unless the purse strings are loosened, a third straight relegation from the Premier League looks to be on the cards at Turf Moor. (TEC).
