Our 42 year old new director is on the board of a successful, London based IT consultancy, development and support business that employs over 600 people across six countries in Europe and at yesterday's board meeting he was co-opted onto the board, taking up the last place which has been vacant since Jon Wilkinson's resignation in 2005.

Mike is from Burnley, was educated at Burnley Grammar School and although having moved to London to further his career has been a lifelong supporter of the Clarets. He first looked at buying shares during the rights issue in 1999 and said today: “Back then I was very hands on in the business and it just didn't feel like the right time, but I've learned a lot in the ensuing seven years and I have more to offer than I did then.

“I heard about the open ended share issue, which has now been available for a couple of years and I met Barry Kilby in the summer and things moved quickly from there. I've bought new shares in the company, some now and some more in ten months, and going forward who knows? If the environment is right, and it feels right, then we will see.”

Speaking about the club Mr Garlick added: “We are not yet in the Premiership, but I think if you look at the club now, and the infrastructure, things are moving in the right direction. All you can do is make things better each year and regardless of resources we have at any time, it as about making the best of them and trying to get that shot at the big time.”

Chairman Barry Kilby added: “I first met Mike in the summer after he wrote to me and he runs a company that is highly successful. We have since held several meetings and I am delighted to welcome him aboard. He is a true fan of the club, as most people are on the board, and he has committed to an investment that will help us move forward.”

Mike Garlick's appointment will be put to the shareholders later this year when it is expected he will then become an elected member of the board.
