Canada calling for Scott

Last updated : 23 November 2015 By Tony Scholes

There was something of a clamour for the Clarets' midfielder to win a call around a year ago when he'd started our Premier League season in outstanding form,  but it didn't come and with his dad being born in Canada it has presented him with an  option to play international football.

In an interview in yesterday's match programme he explained: "I'm still opened minded about the whole thing. At the stage I am in my career, it would be a great life experience to go and represent Canada.

"Once you've played club football for so long, you want to see where it takes you and I have been in contact with Canada so it's something I might do. I've also been speaking to David Edgar and he's been banging the drum about what a good set up they've got there.

"Football takes you to so many places in your short career and you would argue there is a kid inside me that would run about in a Scotland jersey and still wants to play for them, but I'm 27 now and I'm thinking the next step is international football."

Speaking about the Scotland set up, he said: "Me and Boyd (George Boyd has won two Scotland caps) spoke about them potentially shaking it up after not qualifying and last season I think Boydy should have strolled into the squad."

Significantly, he added: "There's no ill feeling to Scotland or anything like that but I'm probably leaning towards Canada."

Could he become the second Burnley player to play international football for Canada> Edgar won 23 caps while at Turf Moor, after making his debut in February 2011, and has now taken that total to 35.
