Burnley debut for Salisbury

The Preston based referee has taken charge of a number of pre-season friendlies involving the Clarets, but tonight he is the man in the middle for our Carling Cup at Morecambe.

He's now had extensive experience at Championship level so we are getting a more experienced referee than Geoff Eltringham who had a difficult afternoon last Saturday when he refereed our game against Leicester.

So far this season he's refereed two games. The first was Oldham's 2-1 win at Tranmere on the opening day of the season. There were four yellow cards in that game but his more recent game, the Championship clash between QPR and Scunthorpe last Saturday, saw Ade Taarabt as the only player carded.

Last season, in 38 games he handed out 87 yellow cards and 9 red cards.

Like Eltringham on Saturday, this will be his first game in our RATE THE REF feature.

The assistant referees tonight are Tony Peart (North Yorkshire) and Duncan Street (West Yorkshire). The fourth official is Danny Markham (Tyne & Wear).
