Burnley capture Darikwa from Chesterfield

Needless to say we've paid an undisclosed fee for the 23-year-old Nottingham born Darikwa who has spent his entire career to date with Chesterfield and played for them in the friendly against us last Saturday.

Initially a winger, it was former manager John Sheridan who converted him into a right back and he went on to be a vital member of Paul Cook's team that won League Two a year ago and then went into the League One play-offs last season.

There was speculation of a move to Man United during David Moyes' tenure as manager but Darikwa claimed he wasn't ready at the time to play at that level although admitted to being flattered by their interest.

That allowed him to go on and play 150 league and cup games for the Spirites, the last of which were the play-off semi-finals against Preston who were so keen to get him and only pulled out today after having had an offer for him accepted.

Sean Dyche is delighted to have added him to the squad. He said: "He is someone we have had our eye on for a while and after playing against Chesterfield last weekend, his performance confirmed our thoughts and made the decision for us.

"He is definitely one who can push for a place in the team now, but also one for the future because we are confident we can improve him as a player because he has a great desire to learn."

Darikwa becomes our fifth summer signing to add to Matt Lowton, Jelle Vossen, Chris Long and Daniel Agyei.
