Brendan - or is it Brenda?

Brendan O'Connell
Brendan O'Connell agreed to sign for us at the end of the 1987/88 season and already committed to a Turf Moor move he travelled to Wembley to watch us in the Sherpa Van Trophy Final against Wolves.

He made an early impact up front, and was often on the scoresheet. He was a regular in the side during his first season but things changed for him towards the end of that season and then during the 1989/90 season with the crowd targeting him.

Eventually he was loaned out to Huddersfield, with Junior Bent coming the other way. It looked as though the deals would be made permanent but it failed to materialise and he returned to Burnley briefly before being sold to Barnsley.

His career blossomed at Oakwell, before he moved on to Charlton and then Wigan where an injury ended his career.

Now to the Brenda - that relates to a game at Spotland against Rochdale and there Burnley's squad was listed including the name of Brenda O'Connell.
