Big Chris calls it a day

He joined Chester in the summer after leaving St. Johnstone where he was a member of the squad that won the Scottish Cup last season, but he's made just four starts for them, plus six substitute appearances, and scored one goal in a 3-1 win at Braintree.

He's had a long career which started with a Scottish League Cup appearance for St. Mirren against Berwick in August 1996. He came on as a substitute in that game and scored the last goal in a 4-0 win.

He moved to Aarhus in Denmark and has also played for Alemania in Germany, whilst he's also played league football in England for 13 different clubs, Burnley being the ninth of them.

In his only season att Turf Moor he featured in all but one of our 46 league games, although a change of manager during the season reduced his number of starts dramatically. He scored 11 goals in those games, 10 of them at home and just one away which came in a 3-1 win at Sean Dyche's Watford.

It was Dyche who took him to Watford but he struggled for goals and after loans at Oldham and Notts County he moved to Scunthorpe before returning to his native Scotland.

A season in non-league football was on the horizon this season until today when the board of directors of Chester confirmed his retirement.

Back in July he played 45 minutes against the Clarets in a pre-season friendly. He didn't score, in fact missed two headed chances, but proved to be of great value to our young central defender Alex Whitmore who he constantly advised during their time on the pitch.

There is no denying he wasn't the most popular of signings we've made in recent years but his goals in the first half of that 2010/11 season did keep us close to the play off places.
