Beast is the star at the Bridge

Brian Jensen
Jensen returned to the ground where he saved spot kicks from Wayne Bridge and John Obi Mikel in last season's Carling Cup penalty shoot out and found himself the busier of the two keepers by a mile, particularly in the first half when an almost constant blue wave was heading towards the Burnley goal.

The defence in front of him were brilliant but he was called upon to make numerous saves and was only beaten in stoppage time at the end of the first half. He ended the game having conceded three goals, now of which he could have done anything about, and probably his only mistake in a superb individual performance came late in the game when Tyrone Mears came to his rescue with a goal line clearance.

He polled an incredible 86.8% of the vote which left everyone else trailing. I expected to see the two central defenders and left back Stephen Jordan in the next places, but second place went to Chris McCann, certainly our best midfielder on the day, with 2.9% and third place was Tyrone Mears with 2.8% of the vote.

The player ratings were no different with Jensen winning by a mile with a rating of 9.56 out of 10, the highest rating of the season. This time those defenders were right behind. Clarke Carlisle was second with a rating of 7.72 whilst Andre Bikey and Stephen Jordan were joint third with a rating of 7.39 out of 10.

Jensen collects six points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year, there are two points for McCann and Carlisle with one each for Mears, Bikey and Jordan.

Eleven players now have points in that table with Bikey in front despite Jensen's two maximums in the early games. Jensen though moves into second place ahead of Carlisle.

The current table

15: Andre Bikey
12: Brian Jensen
10: Clarke Carlisle
6: Steven Fletcher
5: Chris McCann & Tyrone Mears
4: Wade Elliott
1: Graham Alexander, Robbie Blake, Stephen Jordan & Diego Penny
