Austin wins first monthly goal award

Last updated : 05 September 2011 By Tony Scholes

There were 12 goals considered with Austin having scored five of them, but the Burton goal, his second of the season, came out on top with 34.9% of the vote.

The goal was Burnley's third in the cup clash and it looked to have secured a place in the second round. Burton came back and forced us into extra time and the first goal in the extra period from Ross Wallace, another superb strike, was the one that took second place with a 20.8% share.

All of the top three goals came in the Carling Cup with Wade Elliott's final goal for Burnley taking third place.

That came in the second round win against Barnet two weeks ago tomorrow in what was Wade's last start in Burnley colours.

He latched on to a flick from Austin before dragging the ball back and finishing from the edge of the box. Again, like the winning Austin goal, it looked to have taken us through until, once more, we were forced into extra time as the League Two club came back to equalise.

Elliott's goal won 18.8% of the vote with none of the others reaching double figures. The highest scoring league goal was Keith Treacy's headed equaliser against Watford on the opening day of the season which secured a 6.3% share.
