Arsenal consign our record to the history books

Last updated : 09 April 2004 By Tony Scholes

Liverpool did their best to help us, particularly in the first half when they led twice, but two goals early in the second half ended our dreams of retaining the record.

Whilst respecting Arsenal’s achievement, it would be impossible not to, it is something of a sad day that our record of 30 consecutive unbeaten games within one season, established in our first Championship season of 1920/21 has finally been overtaken.

It is a day to again recall those great names of the past who helped to make Burnley Football Club what it is today. The names of Halley, Boyle and Watson are forever recalled but today we should be thankful to and remembering everyone of that team for their wonderful contribution to the history of our great club.

Well done Arsenal, it is the record of a truly great team that you have taken today – a team that we are all rightly proud of, our 1920/21 Football League Champions. And no one can take that honour from them.
