It is strongly believed that Batchelor has had talks with and secured the services of a Claret, none other than Paul Gascoigne. There has been lots of speculation since the end of last season regarding Gazza's next move. Surprisingly in the last week it has been suggested that we might offer him a week to week deal but this came after Stan admitted that he had probably played his last game for Burnley.
Gazza himself said that he would not make a decision until after the World Cup but this could now have been a smoke screen as talks with Batchelor and York have been confirmed.
If he was to join the Bootham Crescent club he would become their third ex-Claret. The most recent signing, last week, was Tom Cowan from Cambridge and club captain there is Chris Brass.
Batchelor certainly spoke highly of Brass, also a former Burnley captain, and said of him this week,
"The player that I would least like to be without in our club is undoubtedly and by a country mile Chris Brass. He's the club captain and that lad works his socks off. He plays with terrific passion and pulls the team from what have been some fairly dire situations on occasions."
But for now we await the news next Monday to see whether Paul Gascoigne's next stop will be York City Football (or is that Soccer?) Club.
