He hasn't had a card free 90 ninety minutes yet this season, the last time he achieved that was in early April in the Division 1 game between Fulham and West Brom. There have been three occasions though this season when he has issued just one yellow card in a game.
Although the two red cards have been given to away players the distribution of yellow cards has been very even. There have so far been 22 to home players and 24 for away players.
His fairness towards away teams was not particularly evident the last time he took charge of a Burnley game. It was our 3-2 win at Norwich on Easter Monday this year. Apart from all the decisions that seemed to go Norwich's way the game could have turned in the space of just a few minutes as he first awarded Norwich a dubious looking penalty from which they went in front 2-1 and then almost immediately turned down a blatant spot kick at the other end.
His last visit to Turf Moor was the night when we all realised that a play off place was the best we were going to do as we went down 3-0 to Gillingham. Nobody told us we weren't going to drop any more points. I can't recall him having any adverse effect on that game at all and neither in his previous visit to Burnley which was the 2-1 victory over Northampton during the Waddle season.
That was the day the Burnley fans turned on Lee Howey and the day that Waddle turned on the Burnley fans and again I can't remember the referee causing any problems. Just as it should be.
Mind you, if Mr. Messias says it is on a couple of hours before kick off it might be best to get it confirmed an hour or so later.
