Profile by Andy Ashworth

Big Aussie centre-half Hodgson was another player with a single Claret appearance to his name.

Beginning his playing career with Sunshine George Cross and then Heidelberg United down under, Doug sealed a move to England with Sheffield United.

His English career spanned 4 years, during which time he appeared for 5 different clubs. He struggled with a series of unfortunate injuries in this time and so was restricted to only around 100 games before he retired.

His move to us was a loan from Sheffield United in the 1996/97 season under Adrian Heath. Playing in the defence against Notts County he helped us to a 1-0 win, but suffered a broken cheekbone in the closing stages of the game. From my seat in the Bob Lord I could see how gutted he was - the dugout could also attest to this after he hit it hard enough to crack it when he was taken off.

Had the injury not happened he could have played many more games for Burnley.
