We're running out of games

Things haven't gone too well for either side in the second half of the season, although that could be taken as something of an understatement for us. The last time we won a game, against Leeds, it left us in fourth place in the league. At the same time Plymouth were as high as ninth and had just four points less than us.

They are now four places lower after a disappointing run of league results in the last couple of months, and that was potentially down to an FA Cup run that forced tonight's fixture to be postponed when they reached the quarter final.

After winning at Peterborough and Barnet they then recorded a home win against Derby before going out to Watford in a sixth round tie at Home Park, but there have been only two league wins since mid-January, mind you we would probably consider that top form right now.

Ian Holloway was able to make some changes to his squad in January, bringing in five players in total, although four of those are loan signings (or two of them if you apply the Leeds rules).

The one permanent signing was Swansea striker Rory Fallon who cost them £300,000 just a year after the Swans had paid a similar amount to take him from Swindon. Kevin Gallon rejoined his old manager from QPR whilst they also brought in Hungarians midfielder Peter Halmosi from Debrecini and defender Krisztian Timar from Ferencvaros.

The fourth loan player is the one who has drawn all the attention - seventeen year old Scott Sinclair from Chelsea. He's twice scored goals having picked the ball up just outside his own box and for most of us that's what has highlighted his time at Plymouth, but the home fans have seen much more and are pleased to hear they are trying to get him on a season long loan for 2007/08.

Holloway is still recovering from the Ipswich defeat, he's still seething over the red card but thought his side played well in the second half after conceding two goals at the beginning of the game.

It's planning for Plymouth, it's becoming vital for the Clarets. We all know how much better the table would look with just one win. It's time to go and get it.

Team News

Plymouth have added both Tony Capaldi and Dan Gosling to the side that lost at Ipswich on Saturday but will be without Matthias Doumbe who is ruled out as he starts a two match ban. They also have David Norris missing through suspension. Gary Sawyer moved into the centre of the defence on Saturday following Doumbe's red card but Holloway has confirmed he won't be there tonight and will either be left-back or left-out.

Holloway also admitted to being mystified at our run and said: "Something's gone amiss. Maybe it is players flexing their muscles or Steve Cotterill has got too big a squad. Who knows? They were in the top half and they have dropped like a stone, but to be honest I don't care about Steve's problems, it is all about us."

Back to them and they are expected to line up: Luke McCormick, Paul Connolly, Marcel Seip, Krisztian Timar, Gary Sawyer, Akos Buzsaky, Peter Halmosi, Lilian Nalis, Scott Sinclair, Barry Hayles, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. Subs from: Lee Hodges, Tony Capaldi, Dan Gosling, Bojan Djordjic, Kevin Gallen, Rory Fallon.

Will Steve Cotterill make changes? I think he will and I think he is set to leave Ade Akinbiyi out of his starting line up for the first time since he returned to the Turf. Ade and Steve Jones were hauled off with around twenty minutes to go on Saturday and I don't expect either to start tonight.

If Ade does miss out then it could be a new look front two with Paul McVeigh moving up to partner Andy Gray. Elsewhere on the pitch Michael Duff could return and that would probably mean former captain Wayne Thomas having to settle for a place on the bench.

Our side could be: Brian Jensen, Michael Duff, Graham Coughlan, Steven Caldwell, Jon Harley, Wade Elliott, Eric Djemba-Djemba, James O'Connor, Chris McCann, Paul McVeigh, Andy Gray. Subs from: Danny Coyne, Wayne Thomas, John McGreal, Garreth O'Connor, Graham Branch, John Spicer, Kyle Lafferty, Steve Jones, Ade Akinbiyi.

Last Meeting

As we look for a win to bring a bad run to an end then last season's win over Plymouth came right in the middle of a bad run and was the only win in a run of fourteen games following the victory over Stoke on Boxing Day.

It was the day when Michael Ricketts did an impression in trying to have us believe he would be a good loan signing and apart from creating one chance for himself he got the only goal of the game after being played in by Micah Hyde.

We were very much the better side in the first half and deserved the lead, but the second half was a different story and Plymouth will have felt they should have got something from the game.

The teams were;

Burnley: Brian Jensen, Michael Duff, Frank Sinclair, John McGreal, Jon Harley, Garreth O'Connor (Wade Elliott 72), Micah Hyde, James O'Connor, Graham Branch, Gifton Noel-Williams, Michael Ricketts. Subs not used: Duane Courtney, Chris McCann, John Spicer, Danny Karbassiyoon.

Plymouth: Romain Larrieu, Paul Connolly, Matthias Doumbe, Elliott Ward, Anthony Barness (Agos Buzsaky 75), David Norris, Lilian Nalis, Paul Wotton, Tony Capaldi, Micky Evans (Chris Zebroski 75), Nick Chadwick. Subs not used: Luke McCormick, Hasney Aljofree, Lee Hodges.
