With eight games to go we are still in the thick of things

Martinez has highlighted the part the home fans can play as they look to get the points that will start to ease their relegation fears. "The crowd makes a huge difference, it gives the lads a real boost," he said ahead of the game. "The atmosphere in the last few matches has been the best all season I think. So we need more of the same.

"Our club has a history of coming together when the situation calls for it. It's what makes us special, and I know the supporters will be a tremendous help at our DW Stadium, we want to recreate the mood and atmosphere of the Liverpool game especially.

"The mood in the camp is very positive, the players are very together and they know that although we maybe haven't had lady luck on our side in the last few weeks, you have to earn your luck in the Premier League and they will continue to maintain their high standards and the rewards will follow.

"We realise how important the role of the crowd is, and that is why we want to make a gesture back to the fans and reduce prices as much as we could for the run in. Get ready for the challenge ahead."

It is a year ago this weekend that we travelled to Home Park for a league game against Plymouth Argyle and came home with all three points after Robbie Blake scored a late winner. Since then there have been just three points on the road, at Derby, Southampton and Manchester City, in 18 games, and with no fewer than 52 goals conceded.

"Everyone is waiting for the first away win, although it's not just as though it's happened overnight," Burnley boss Brian Laws said.

"This has been a long term thing, almost a year to the day, so I think the important thing is that we acknowledge the fact it's been such a long time and it's taken a long time to re-address.

"It will be a great relief to get that first win because once you get that away from home it does give you great confidence and normally inspires you to go and get more wins on the road. You normally go on a run of results.

"We have got to break that duck. It has been very frustrating for the supporters over the last 12 months not to see their team win away from home."

Laws continued: "With eight games to go we are still in the thick of things. You can't hide away from the fact that we are all very disappointed we didn't get the result against Wolves last weekend.

"But the evidence from the second half performance particularly tells everybody we are more than capable of winning games. It would be great if we could get a result at Wigan, which would set us up nicely for a fantastic and massive game against Blackburn the week after."
