We need to have the strength of character about us

Paul Jewell has seen his Derby side recover from a difficult start to the season and he's looking forward to visiting Burnley, a ground that holds personal significance for him.

"Turf Moor is a historic ground and is where I scored my first league goal many years ago on loan from Liverpool," he said. "It's a good place to go and play. The fans are quite vociferous there, and they are a good team. They are fifth in the league, they have some good players, and they have a good manager so it is going to be a tough game.

"The last couple of away games have been disappointing and we need to turn the away performances into more like home performances."

Owen Coyle is still far from happy with the events of Monday night at Oakwell but is aware that now is the time to move on. "There was no getting away from how aggrieved we felt about the Barnsley match, but that's behind us now," he said. "We just need to pick ourselves up and make sure we are ready for Derby on Saturday.

"In my tenure here I can not recall many favourable decisions going our way. It's all very well for people to say that things even themselves out, but you tend to find the people saying that are the coaches who have been on the end of the fortuitous decisions. I think there is an inconsistency in decisions and there is no getting away from that.

"But we know when we are totally focused and concentrated that we are a good side who can win games and that's what we need to be, regardless of whether decisions go our way or not. We need to have the strength of character about us to continue and get the ball down, doing what we are good at."

Looking at the game he added: "Derby had a poor start to the season, but Paul Jewell is a top manager and he has got them up and running. They are just down from the Premier League, and with a big, big budget as well as an unbelievable infrastructure.

"But the bottom like is if we get to the standards and the levels we have set before, it is a game we can win.

"They are on a magnificent run at present, and are certainly deserving of it. So we are going to have to be at our best, but we showed in the last half and hour especially at Barnsley, after everything that had gone on, that when we are in full flow, then we are a very good team to watch and equally a very effective one."
