We looked as if we had got a few results

Leeds thought that seven points from their last four games, a total of 49 points, would be enough to ensure safety, and this was the first three towards them. "It was fantastic," said Wise. "The boys did extremely well. We could even have been 3-0 up by half time and it was a good performance.

"The pleasing part was the clean sheet. Burnley didn't cause us too many problems, and Casper Ankergren only really had one save to make. We made it a bit tighter and closed it down at the end, and we are chuffed."

Looking at the overall situation at the bottom he added: "We've caught another team up, Hull, and we're close to Leicester as well now. The only result that didn't go for us was Barnsley's win at Southend, but there's three left, we're still in there and there's plenty to play for."

Steve Cotterill saw the Clarets lose for the first time in five games, and also concede a goal for the first time in those games. "It was frustrating for us in the first half, but in the second half we dominated," he said. "I don't think they got in our half hardly in the second half.

"But that's probably going to happen, especially when they get their noses in front, they are not going to gamble too much at the end. We got round the back of them enough times but we just didn't punish them when we had the chances.

"It had been frustrating in the first half because we didn't do the things then that we did in the second half. We looked as if we had got a few results and it was a sigh of relief for us in that first 45 minutes.

"Leeds are difficult to play against especially when they have a crowd like they do at Elland Road. We knew it would be tough, but having said that if we had been better in the first half we may have got something out of the game. After half time we played a lot better, with a bit more zip and devilment, but not quite enough."

Speaking about the goal we conceded he added: "We said going into the game that we had to head well because they would stick balls in our box, create havoc and look for knock downs. That's the disappointing thing because we have worked hard on set plays, but today it has undone us."
