We are going away disappointed we haven't taken the three points

Burley saw his side come second best to the Clarets for most of the game and he was honest enough to admit after the game that his side were fortunate. "I was pleased with a point as they are a good side with experience and had a number of opportunities, but our goalkeeper made some good saves and our centre halves were outstanding this afternoon," Burley said.

"We started the game brightly and did well for the first period of the match but then had to stand firm when Burnley got on top of the game and overall I am pleased with a point.

"We have a top class keeper in Julian Speroni and you could see why we worked very hard to keep him during the transfer window. It doesn't surprise me when he makes these kind of saves, as he is someone who is still maturing.

"Today was a learning experience for us and our wide men didn't get as much room as they did on Tuesday night, but games like this will be good for them."

I think the Burnley players will come home wondering how they haven't won this game and the manager was delighted with how they played. "It's a bar we have set now and we want to keep that standard," said Laws after what was surely our best performance of the season so far.

"It was a performance that we needed. We haven't hit the ground running away from home but that was top drawer and if we keep playing like that we will get a lot more positive results. It was almost perfect and had we won it would have been perfect.

"We are going away disappointed we haven't taken the three points but there were so many pluses I can take away from that. We are delighted with the performance."

Laws added: "That is what we are capable of. We have been wanting that kind of performance since the start of the season. It was only a matter of time before it happened. We know we are a strong outfit at home and we need to mirror that away from home and today we did. We just didn't get the win.

"There were some really good performances out there and some superb individuals. We had an inspirational goalkeeper in front of us in Speroni. I thought he was outstanding in the saves he pulled off, but if we keep playing like that I will be a happier manager.
