It's only another three points and there is more work to be done

O'Driscoll admitted his team were very fortunate to be in front at half time but bemoaned the inability to get the best out of a big second half opportunity when Lee Grant saved a Steven Davies penalty.

"We were fortunate to go in 1-0 up (at half time)," O'Driscoll said. "We needed some desperate defending at times. We tried to be positive and learn from the Wolves game. Albert's (Adomah) got us a goal out of the blue and it's given us something to hold on to.

"They pushed four forwards up front and put us on the back foot. We had a bit of luck but stuck in there. When you have limited possession you become reactive more than proactive, so it's difficult.

"But their goal was poor with the way it bundled through and with the second one we got caught out a bit at the back post.

"If the penalty goes in, they get booed off the pitch, instead they get a third and leave as heroes. No one will feel sorry for us in this division. At times we've had good performances away but not the results to go with it."

Sean Dyche must have been relieved when that final whistle went but felt it was no more than we deserved. “We totally deserved that today and we were dominant throughout," he said.

“The chances ended up 25 to 5 in our favour and that gives you a fair reflection of how on top we were today. We used the ball well, there was a real energy about us and some very good quality at times.

“We couldn’t find that killer edge in the first half, and you just had that feeling it could be one of those days. To go one (goal) down massively against the run of play was a strange one, but there was calmness in the dressing room at half time.

“We said we would keep going about our business and I was really pleased we did that. It would have been easy to get nervy, but the calmness they showed in that performance was excellent.

“The whole feel of the game was very good and that has been building for quite a while now. People don’t always see what goes on inside the camp, but the players have been terrific in training, they have got their rewards and that’s only one loss in seven now.”

Dyche admitted concerns when referee James Adcock pointed to the spot. “There was another amazing twist of fate when they got a penalty late on,” said Dyche. I’ve looked at it again and it’s tight, but I think it’s just outside (the box), but Granty makes a fantastic save.

“We didn’t need that though because we had done more than enough to win and I’m just thoroughly pleased for the players, the fans and the whole club. However, it’s only another three points and there is more work to be done.

I’ve never seen such a mad Championship like this one and all we can do is take care of ourselves.

“How far can we go now, that’s my message to the players; Enjoy this win because it’s thoroughly deserved and next week we go again.”
