It was a nearly performance

"We got it right in both boxes tonight and when you do that, you have a chance," he said after the game. "The defence was strong and credit to Gary Madine up top because he held the ball up and brought others into play.

"We were good value for the win and I'm delighted for the players because they have done so well at a Premier League side. We knew it would be a good test and I told them to go out there and impose themselves on Burnley because we are a good side too."

Sean Dyche made seven changes to the team that had started at Swansea on Saturday and admitted afterwards that his only disappointment was the result.

He said "It  was a nearly performance. There was a lot of good play and a lot of possession, with some good forward thinking play. We just didn't have that edge to it that we have when we are free flowing.

"We made changes because we have to make sure players are fully fit and we wanted to use this game for that, but I make it quite clear I desire winning, so I am not happy with the result; I'm just not madly concerned with the performance because there were a lot of good things.

"I've seen the stats and we controlled the game. We dealt with their 4-5-1 and all the long ammo that they throw at it. It was just one of those marginal games and a nearly night for us.

"I'd also say I don't know how we haven't had a penalty tonight. It's impossible to not mention it because there were four incidents. I've seen all four again and three of them are penalties."

With Dean Marney out injured and David Jones forced off with an injury, it leaves us very short in the midfield area with Manchester United here on Saturday.

Dyche is still looking for new players and said: "The only concern I have is the reality of the market, which is at an all time high. As a club we have certain financial guidelines that we have to work to and it's difficult to work within, just by going into the Premier League.

"You have seen the spending power of others and it's challenging, it's as simple as that. We've been in for a few, but there is not just us in for them. Equally, we've been in for some and people bigger than us throw way more money at it. There is only a small pool of players in our market and it is a tough one, there's no two ways about it.

"It's just the reality of being Burnley Football Club and going into this new world. Weirdly, it's more difficult to sign players than last year because the market has changed radically. If you look at Charlie Austin's price last year and what he would be worth now, it's a massively different market within one year and I think that's taken most by surprise.

"We are Premier League now and if you go in for any player, trust me, the value goes up radically than it was just a few months ago when we were in the Championship."
