If we can improve his heading he'll be a fantastic player

Ipswich, unbeaten away from home since September, have suddenly become poor travellers according to boss Joe Royle who was though at least happy to acknowledge how well we had played.

"It's never dull with us," said Royle. "Never bet on us having a nil-nil draw.

"We can't afford to keep giving teams two-goal starts and we seem to allow our opponents luxuries they don't allow us.

"We looked tired today and perhaps six hours on a coach didn't help. We were very poor in the first half when bad marking again led to us conceding goals.

"We gave it a go and at 3-2 had three chances to equalise but all in all I can't have any complaints about the result.

"Credit Burnley though, in players like Blake and Little they have top players in this division and they won’t have any problems staying up this year."

Stan was happy enough after bouncing back from the cup exit at Millwall.

"I thought the lads deserved it today but when they hit the post at 3-2 it did get a little nervy. They did well though.

"The third goal was the important one and we got it and then we should have had a penalty when Glen was fouled and he booked Chappy for the tackle instead. I’m really pleased for them though and they gave it a good go.

"In the past Joe Royle has given us some really bad days but today it was my turn."

Stan then had special praise for some of his players, "Paul Weller did very well, he got a good 70 minutes in and he has only played two reserve games since his injury.

"Glen put his chance away well and Maysey stuck his away well too for the second.

"Chappy struck his beautifully and his overall contribution was excellent. He has a good temperament for it and if we can improve his heading he’ll be a fantastic player.

"I was just sad that Ian Moore didn’t get one today because he worked his socks off. I’m sure it will come."
