I would rather two of them go for it than none

"Absolutely delighted," was how McCall said he felt after the game at the Bradford & Bingley Pulse Flamingo Land Pension Fund Intersonic Valley Parade Stadium. "I thought we did very well, both collectively and individually. It was very promising," he added.

McCall knew it wouldn't be the easiest of work outs for his side. "When I looked at Burnley's team sheet, I knew it would be a tough ask with million pound players up front, creative ability all through the park and internationals at the back. I've played against most of those lads at the top level or in the Championship and they are a good side. But I was very pleased we coped with them well. Now we've stressed to the players that they've set the standard and have to keep that up."

He accepted that the system they played last night was not one they would use in a league game. "It was a semi-defensive system we won't be playing at home," he said. "But I didn't want us to get spanked 4-0 by going 4-4-2. If we had been over positive then Burnley would have picked us off. "We needed to give the back lads a bit of cover and I felt it worked well. The wide players broke at good times and we got a good goal."

Steve Cotterill said after the game: "These run outs are always useful and we knew, coming here, it was going to be a tough game. All in all it is a good workout in what has been a hard pre-season so far, although we chose to have that. At times it was a bit scrappy, and that was disappointing because it was a good pitch, but it was a good workout for us. It is another game."

Speaking on the incident when Stephen Foster and Wayne Thomas suffered a clash of heads he added: "They both need stitches after a bit of a lack of communication, but I would rather two of them go for it than none."
